MESSI RETURNS TO TRAINING PLEDGE COMMITMENT TO KOEMAN AND THE TEAM

Argentine international Lionel Messi met with club new head coach Ronald Koeman and did train alone Monday working on his fitness. Messi who had missed first session of pre-season training due to his expression of interest to leave Barcelona this summer but could not leave for free as the club stepped up intending legal battle to stop him from joining another club.


The 33-year, according Mundo Deportivo has pledge his commitment to the club and promised Koeman that he will return to his best form for this season.


Messi who had last week spoken about his previous discussion with Barcelona president on his intention to leave the club, which he had an agreement in principle and a clause in his contract which he could leave, if he informs the club before a stipulated date in June.


However, he was stopped due to the 700 million euro release clause in his contract which is being upheld. According to Bible Sports, Messi had last spoken to Goal.com, he said,


“I told the club, including the president, that I wanted to go. I’ve been telling him that all year,”


“I believe it was a time to step aside.


The Argetine legend also added, he said, “I believed that the club needed more young players, new players and I thought my time in Barcelona was over.


“I felt very sorry because I always said that I wanted to finish my career here.


“…..It did not come because of the Champions League result against Bayern, no- I had been thinking about the decision for a long time.


“I told the president and, well, the president always said that at the end of the season I could decide if I wanted to go or if I wanted to stay and in the end he did not keep his word.”


The 33 year-old who has scored over 600 hundred goals for Barcelona, is a six times Ballon d’Or winner, ten League titles and four Champions League.
