22 YEAR-OLD NAOMI OSAKA BECOMES HIGHEST PAID FEMALE ATHLETE, BEAT WILLIALMS TO SECOND

Serena Williams is no longer the highest paid female athlete according to recently released list by Forbes, Monday. Tennis star Naomi Osaka is way ahead with Serena now rated second position.

Serena Williams earned £27.2million for the year starting June 1, 2019 to June 1, 2020. With £24.2million coming from endorsements, while Naomi Osaka earned a staggering £28.2million in 2020 with total £2.5million coming from prize money and endorsement at a whopping £25.7million.

The Forbes tally and calculation are comprised of prize money, salaries, bonuses, endorsements and appearance fees between June 1, 2019 and June 1, 2020.
The world top earner, Noami Osaka stellar performance with the back to back titles at the Grand Slam, US Open in 2018 and 2019 Australian Open.

Again, coupled with Nikes £7.5million deal which she was snatched from Adidas did boost her earnings.

She tops eight of her fellow tennis players who earn their living from the racket and they occupy highest in the list (nine). Naomi now has15 endorsement partners, including global brands Nissan Motors, Yonex and Shiseido.

The only non-tennis player in the list of 10 female highest earners topped by the 22 year-old is Alex Morgan, an American national soccer player, who earned a total of £3.4million with massive endorsements worth ten times her on- field salaries and bonuses at £3,000 last year.

Some of Morgan’s sponsors include Nike, Coca-Cola, Volkswagen and AT&T.

Ashleigh Barty, Australian tennis star earned herself the No 3 earning a total of £9.9million with £2.2million coming from endorsements.
