SERENA WILLIAMS WINS IN WTA TOUR RETURN AS SHE FACE SISTER VENUS IN LEXINGTON OPEN

The 23-time Grand Slam winner, Serena Williams made a dramatic return to WTA Tour winning three sets, having initially lost the first set to Bernarda Pera at the Lexington Open to set up a meeting with the sister Venus.


The No.1 seed fought back to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in Kentucky. Serena who last played in competitive game in February, obviously played rusty but extra drive of effort inspired her to winning the match. Speaking to WTA Website:


“I wasn’t in a good rhythm and I just kept thinking Serena, play like you’ve been practicing. “I knew I could play a little bit better if just hung in there.”


Meanwhile her sister Venus won in a straights sets of 6-3, 6-3 to beat Victoria Azarenka .


The mononymous Williams sisters will clash in the Second Round of the Lexington Open which is a good preparatory ground to the US Open which starts on August 31. In their previous 30 meeting, Serena has a head-to head advantage of 18-12 and has won four of their last five meeting.


Their game always attract global attention and for sure it promises to be an exciting encounter which Venus said “It’s so special” ahead of their 31st time of facing each other.
