AFRICAN NATIONS CUP POSTPONED UNTIL 2022- CAF
The Confederation of African Football has postponed the African Nations Cup, AFCON, until 2020. The tournament which was scheduled to hold in Cameroon from the 9th of January 2021 has now been shifted to January 2022.
The announcement was made Tuesday after the Executive Committee meeting by CAF, that the 33rd biennial tournament was postponed due to Coronavirus pandemic impact on the global community especially in Africa.
‘’ After consultation with stakeholders and taking into consideration the current global situation, the tournament has been rescheduled for January 2022’’ CAF confirmed in a statement.
‘’ The date for the final tournament and the remaining matches of the qualifiers will be communicated in due course’’. CAF also said.
Meanwhile the African Women’s Nations Cup has been cancelled and will not hold as earlier scheduled.
