ATHLETICO MADRID PRESIDENT PRAISE TEAM AHEAD OF RETURN LEG IN ANFIELD
Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has praised his team’s performance against Liverpool in UEFA Champins League match played Tuesday, Athletico Madrid won 1-0 against Liverpool. He described Liverpool ground for the return leg cheeky dig at “old” Anfield
“He who strikes first strikes hardest,” a delighted Cerezo said at a presentation for a new signing at Atletico’s women’s team, via AS.
“To see our fans so committed to the team was amazing. It was absolutely spectacular. Anfield is a great stadium but it’s old. It probably wouldn’t pass the UEFA inspection if it had to do it.”
Cerezo also talked up Atletico’s chances of progressing in the tie, and delighted in a first leg result that left Klopp and his players frustrated with Atletico’s tactics and the officiating.
“According to the media, a week ago we were dead and buried and now we are very much alive,” continued Cerezo.
“They had gone 30 games unbeaten and people were saying they are the best team in the world.
“We are happy with the result but we still have another game to go. But we have rediscovered ourselves and that is the best news.”
